My curiosity goes beyond the meaning of a text. I am interested in focusing on a range of meanings that a text makes possible. The turn to social semiotics, from traditional semiotics, has been reflected in an increasing concern with the role of the reader. Searching for what is 'hidden' beneath the 'obvious' can lead to fruitful insights. Social semiotics alerts us to how the same text may generate different meanings for different readers.
